Scholarship Luncheon 2011

Annually, NSPDK, Inc. Theta Chapter has a scholarship luncheon.  The scholarship luncheon does what it should, to raise money for our high school graduating Kudos and Xinos entering college.

What a perfect occasion for sorors to also be “A Lady in Red” [more high points of the event are the reciprocal opportunities to interact, connect and inspire honorees, donors and our magnificent youth, while meeting face to face].

Book Club Meets Author

The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., Theta Chapter, has an active book club known as The Beautiful Bibliophiles.  Simply put, Theta collects and loves books!

We anticipate meeting at our regularly scheduled book discussion sessions, where we get to build sisterhood, expand our knowledge, increase our cultural ties, push pass our own perspectives and support our youth.

Each bullet-point was once again achieved when we read and talked about the Powder Necklace along with author Nana Ekua Brew-Hammond [standing in the rear, regally graced in a cyan blue scarf, amongst Theta Sorors adorned in red and gold].

Brew-Hammond’s debut novel is a coming of age story of an exploratory London teenage girl, sent “back home” to Ghana by her divorced and protective mother to complete her schooling.  Eventually, she is to reunite with her mother, but with some unresolved challenges decides instead to visit her father in New York City.

Theta [as so often is the case] had such a good time reflecting on what we agreed upon, what would probably happen and how we could either relate or not.  What a charm to host the talented Nan Ekua Brew-Hammond, and we all agreed that we look forward to more of her books.

Theta Beautiful Bibliophiles has a mantra: “Keep on Reading, Keep on Teaching and Keep on Achieving”.
